Let's get this ball rolling...
Alas, we begin. I've been thinking about starting a food blog for some time now, but just haven't had a chance to put fingers to keys. First off, here are the basics:
1.) I really dig food. Not only do I like to eat it, but I like to make it too.
2.) I really dig wine. Not only do I like to drink it, but I like to sell it too.
3.) I really dig eating in restaurants. I used to dig working in them too.
4.) I really dig traveling the world, eating food and drinking wine.
Now that we have that straight, let's really begin. I live with my wife in Nashville, Tennessee and work for a local wine distributor. I've been in the wine biz for about 10 years. I spent the previous 10 years in the restaurant biz but finally got tired of watching the sun come up. I know, a sunrise is beautiful and all, but only when it's your choice to see it.
I started my interest in food sort of by accident. My mother owned a catering business in Cedar Rapids, Iowa way back in the day and I often got roped into being her helper. I had no interest in food other than eating it. Later, I got a job busing tables at a place called Fat Daddy's in Raleigh, NC just because it was the new, cool place to work when I was in high school. When I left to go to college, I vowed to NEVER work in the restaurant business ever again. It sucked ass. Little did I know that I would spend nearly all of my twenties and the early part of my thirties knee deep in it. In hindsight, it was some of the best times of my life. So much for that bullshit, for now, I plan to talk much more about those experiences down the road.
Back to the point of my ramblings, this blog is about food. I plan to write about various observations of the food world of which I've made many mental notes over the years, but never written down. Most of my rants have fallen on the ears of those unfortunate enough to be in earshot after what has become known as "too many wines." Also, I will write about restaurants from our travels, food trends I'm following, what I cook for dinner on the average weeknight (which tends to be anything but average.), and on and on and on. I'm really not much of a writer, I just call 'em like I see 'em. I do want to make one thing clear because I spent so many years in the restaurant biz, I'm not into bashing restaurants for various indiscretions, even though I see everything that is going on around me. I will forever have a soft spot for my brothers and sisters in the trenches. I am one of you.
This blog will undergo many transformations, basically, because I have no idea of what I'm doing, it just seems like a fun project. So, with that being said, I hope you enjoy my musings.
Hugs and kisses,
Pennington
